Preparing for life as a student

You have made your decision and sent off your application. This marks the beginning of a whole new part of your life. It could mean some lifestyle changes are on the way for you too, so now is the time to get prepared.

What happens next?

Receiving an offer for a place at university, TAFE or CIT is when all your plans and dreams start to become real. With the offer will come instructions about how to take the next step:  accepting the offer.  You can take a look at the Accepting your offer page for more details.

A new identity

If you are going to be a successful student then you need to start thinking like one and gather together all the things you need. You might already be looking forward to the student lifestyle or the social life, but there is some serious – and interesting – stuff you should do too.

Look at all the subjects you can do throughout your course – and even those in postgraduate courses so that you get an idea of what is on the horizon for you. If you don’t know what the subjects are about, read some course descriptions and do some research. You won't be expected to understand it all before you have begun, but the more background knowledge you have, the better – and the more successful your studies will be.
